I have experience as both a private tutor and as an assistant lecturer within a university. I enjoy crafting lesson plans and study materials according to the needs of my student. I do not employ a “one size fits all” approach to my students but prefer to recognise their unique strengths and weaknesses and customise lessons to these. Whether it be improvement of your written or spoken French you are wanting to achieve, I’m willing to provide as much help and guidance as I can.

I make my own worksheets, notes, test material which are informed by two years of working in the University of Pretoria’s French Department. I am lucky enough to have garnered a high level of fluency through my formal French studies and my year abroad spent in Belgium.

Lessons typically tend to be loosely structured, with the initial session highlighting areas that need revision. Subsequent lessons will be structured in a way that addresses each issue in a logical manner, as so much of language leads on from previous concepts… meaning, the basics are just as important as the more complex elements of the language!

If so desired, mock testing sessions can be arranged to assess a student’s progress or even ability to convey themselves under time pressure. I recognise many students might require my services in preparation for some kind of formal assessment and my teaching approach allows for this element of stress to be explored in a constructive way.

Finally, learning a language should inspire you to visit the countries that speak it, be more social and explore outside of your comfort zone! Don’t forget why you chose to learn a different language in the first place and feel free to tell me not only about your academic goals but where you see yourself with French one day; I will work hard to get you there!
