I have a PhD in Creative Writing and I have particular interest in Historical Fiction and how real events can be fictionalised. However, I love all forms of writing and I am an avid reader. I can help students with all writing queries, including creative non-fiction. My lessons aim to inspire creativity and to help writers, of all ages, to consider the imagery they create, or the words they choose. I look at the structure of sentences and the impact of syntax on writing, as well as how to self-edit your work. Creative writing strengthens general writing, whether that is part of an exam paper, or in business, or just for pleasure. I can tailor my classes to suit your needs, and focus on the issues you are struggling with, whether that is establishing plot, developing character, or describing setting. Perhaps you want to explore literary devices such as similes, metaphors, or onomatopoeia, then we can workshop these ideas and develop your skills. Using practical exercises and looking at the work of published writers, with gentle guidance, I can help you develop and progress your creative writing and provide you with the inspiration you need to move forward with your writing project.
