My lessons differ from person to person as I like to give out pieces that spark the interest of the individual. However, usually, the main structure consists of scales, technical exercises, bulk pieces, and finally finishing off with sight reading. It is important to be confident in all areas of the piano as that will make you a well-rounded musician. If you are a complete beginner then there will be theory introduced within your lesson as well to ensure that you understand what is happening within your music. Lessons can be either 30 minutes or an hour however I recommend for the best chance of rapid improvement that a 60 minute lesson is what you decide on.
I have been teaching for over two years now with companies such as the London Piano Institute and the West Kensington Music Team and have had every single student that has entered an ABRSM exam come out with a distinction. We discuss more than notes and rhythms in a piece, we discuss the story, history, theory and expression needed to bring it to life. Technique is important but so is interpretation and creativity.
