I have a year of tutoring experience, applied in a secondary school setting in which I mentored various students all preparing for their GCSE exams. As well as this, I have just finalised my first season of work with a wilderness Summer camp in which I upheld the role of tribe leader and guided a group of 15 children at a time through a plethora of activities.
Prior to getting stuck in, I believe it is highly beneficial to recap topics with my student even if they know it; a simple refresher is all that's needed! Doing quizzes in the middle of my lessons also acts for the same cause and puts my students on the spot, replicating a mini-exam.
I advocate going through practice questions in my lessons because, as a current student myself, I know that physically writing down the steps and answers to a question not only helps the theory stay in my head but also improves my exam writing skills. Visual aids like whiteboards are such a handy tool in lessons, I highly preach the use of these in my tutoring!
