To be a teacher it is important to have the qualities of care and compassion.
I believe effective teaching is the outcome of life-long learning, intention of knowledge sharing and selfless devotion. My first teaching experience was during my undergraduate days, when I volunteered to tutor underprivileged girls from a government school (Jonepur Girls’ High School, West Bengal) as a chemistryteacher for vocational chemistry training courses. I started teaching there in 2009 and was engaged till 2018.
Apart from providing vocational chemistry lessons, I liked to take the responsibility most often to motivate and inspire underprivileged girls to continue their studies. The most rewarding part of the 9-year long journey is that I was able to motivate a lot of the students as they have completed their studies and few of them have got job offers. At the University of Kalyani (KU), I was a teaching assistant for several semesters to help in my advisor’s master’s degree courses (biochemistry major). At the University of Kalyani and W.B.U.T., as a part of my supervisor’s and co-supervisor’s courses, I developed and taught course modules on the origin of life, chemistry of amino acids and peptides, nanotechnology and polymer chemistry. In addition, during my PhD,
I mentored four master’s projects on designing polymer- stabilized nanoparticles as antimicrobial agent. During my postdoctoral stay at Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), I have trained two PhD students. I have experience of teaching M. Tech. students for 1 year in JIS College of Engineering, Kolkata.
