When teaching primary school children maths, my lessons will be fun, engaging, and built around building confidence as well as understanding. I believe that children learn best when they are active participants, so my lessons will combine traditional learning with interactive activities and games. Each session will start with a warm-up activity to get children thinking mathematically, such as quick-fire number games or mental maths challenges.
I will use a variety of resources like flashcards, online quizzes, and practical objects (like counters and dice) to help children visualise concepts. To keep lessons exciting, I will include maths games such as bingo for practising addition and subtraction, treasure hunts for solving simple problems, and even group competitions to encourage teamwork and healthy motivation.
Every lesson will be carefully structured to start with a clear explanation, followed by guided practice and independent work, always encouraging questions along the way. I will tailor activities to suit each child’s learning style, whether they prefer visual aids, hands-on activities, or problem-solving tasks.
Praise and positive reinforcement will play a big part in my teaching approach, helping children feel proud of their progress. I aim to create a relaxed and supportive environment where mistakes are seen as opportunities to learn. By combining clear instruction with fun, interactive elements, my goal is to help every child develop a love for maths and the confidence to tackle new challenges with enthusiasm.
