I am a research Chemist, currently coming to the end of my postgraduate Masters. Necessarily becoming quite specialised, I relish the opportunity to dive back into other topics and guide tutees through the next steps of their education, giving them the confidence in the subjects they wish to pursue. I was fortunate to have some excellent teachers who instilled in me a passion and curiosity that stems far beyond my subject.
I have extensive experience of Chemistry and Maths A levels. I love guiding students through these, helping them to really understand the content so they can perform in exams. I also tutor undergraduate Chemistry, GCSE Sciences and am always open to applying my knowledge and skills to new levels of qualification.
Online only sessions at present. Any time of day. First session free!
My Tutoring Approach:
I like to have a relaxed but focused session allowing tutees to feel comfortable and really get the most out of their time. I like to cover topics from first principles whenever time permits, so that tutees can really get to grips with the content. Afterwards we work through some problems together and then I set some further work to do before the next session where we can tease out the fine details before continuing with the next section.
Where students are willing, I am a big advocate for pushing just a little beyond the course specification. Whilst some might consider this poor use of time, I find it hones the ability to apply core content to new areas and makes students feel much more comfortable when curveball questions come up in exams. I feel it is often the case that good students can miss out on the grades they deserve when they get worked up in the exam, so confidence is key. With this I believe all students should be capable of achieving at least an A!
As mentioned, I find it most valuable to set work to be done in advance of the session, hence my rate accounts for some marking time.
