I work best if the student can let me know which specific topic they would like help with first. I then speak to the student to gauge which level he is at so I know where to begin my explanation. During the session, I'll be consistently asking questions to ensure the student understands, and ensuring the pace of my teaching is at the right level. I'll always guide the student through some past exam questions on the topic, and give them hints on how to complete it. This may include some unusual questions which require critical thinking and problem solving, but will really solidify the topic for the student. Once they have a strong understanding of the topic, I'll start working on some exam technique with the student, for example, ensuring they can complete the question in the necessary time and lay out their workings in an examinable format. If I think it's useful, I'll set the student some extra questions to practice in the future, to further build fluency and understanding outside of the lesson.
I'm a kind and patient individual, and this is reflected in my approach to tutoring. I'll put the students needs first and ensure they get value out of the lesson while also making it an enjoyable and stress free environment. While I haven't had professional tutoring experience in the past, my enrolment at a specialist maths school puts me in good stead to explain tricky concepts. I look forward to helping you :)
