I have over twenty-five years professional experience in the creative field, namely graphic design, but lean heavily towards art and design in my lessons. I start with the fundamentals and basics of drawing, enabling students to gain confidence in the skills that underpin the ability to create freely and intuitively. My main focus is on making all students feel that they have the ability to create, and that there is no right or wrong, even when there is a criteria to be followed. I guide them so that they gain confidence in using a variety of different media, pencil, ink, pastel, chalk and also paint to gain an understanding of how shade, lightness and darkness are used to make works of art. The emphasis is always on the students providing their own artistic assessment of the what they understand and see before them, as their own uniqueness is key to their development as artists and creative persons.
