Hello there! My name is Kristina Steward and I am a BSc Honours in Physiological Sciences graduate who is currently living in Edinburgh.
Visual and conversational teaching are my primary methods of teaching as it helps students connect the dots, particularly in a subject such as biology. I find that these methods are effective regardless of the student's age. Drawing diagrams and mind maps helped me significantly from high school through university. These tools allowed me to gain a holistic view of complex and interconnected subjects, such as biology and physiology.
Furthermore, I have used these methods when tutoring third-year students during their physiology practicals, and they found this approach very helpful! However, please feel free to tell me your preferred method of learning, and I will happily adapt to that. I understand that not everyone learns best visually.
During my class, my goal is to explain and clarify areas where students may be struggling. I aim to do this in a friendly way to create a safe, fun, and trusting space for the individual(s). I want my students to know that trust and respect go both ways, and that these are important qualities for learning! Consequently, I aim to be well prepared and knowledgeable about the lesson's topic(s), and will do my utmost to help students identify and address their problem areas during that time. Additionally, I will gladly provide them with supplementary learning resources, such as reliable YouTube videos or sections/chapters of academic books.
Thank you for your time!
