I like to use a funnel method of teaching, starting out with a broad overview of the concept before narrowing down to the finer details. I use the concepts of abstraction and decomposition to break tasks down into easy to understand, manageable chunks.
For practical skills, I like to do an "I do, We do, You Do" model where I will provide an expert model of the skill or skills, then run through them again in a step by step model together, before setting an easy to understand model for you to work through independently, with my guidance or input available at all times. I believe that this model is successful as the core concepts are carefully explained before the necessary independent practice can happen, moving the taught information from the working memory to the long term memory.
I like to set assessments to guage knowledge at key points of our tutoring time in order to see where we are with subjects and where more clear, expert modelling might be needed. In this way I can tailor lessons easily to the student, making sure you are learning what you want or need to learn.
I know that my proven background, guiding computer science undergraduates through a variety of concepts and schemes of learning can be applied well to you. Allowing you to grow and flourish as a competent computer scientist or IT practitioner.
