I have over 5 years of experience teaching English as a second language to a wide variety of citizens from around the world. I have also been a tutor for fellow students in my former university in the subject of Philosophy and Religion. In addition to this, I received the Eryl W. Davies award for the most outstanding achievement within my subject on top of averaging a first in every year of university and going beyond what was asked of me to complete my essays.
My lesson plans vary as I like to adapt to the personality of the student, I adopt a conversational style of teaching that hopes to make the student feel as though they're talking to someone familiar, as this makes for a very effective environment for learning.
I am very inquisitive and will ask questions to help the students lead their own curiosity to an understanding of the subject that goes beyond memory. The aim of my lessons is for the students to not just remember what they're being taught but to comprehend and understand it to a level that could have real-life applications. Philosophy is more than a subject to pass, it encompasses meaning, morality, and behaviour, involving many other influential fields. Hence why I think a conversational approach, in combination with how the student best learns, is, in my eyes, the most effective way to learn as then they will already be equipped with the verbal tools to express themselves, ask questions, maintain attention and importantly, say something both relevant and convincing.
As you will find within the subject of philosophy, there are many uncertainties, and there seems to be no end, however, through our lessons, the student will find that their personality will emerge to lean towards what they find to be more tasteful to their intellectual eyes, and through that, I'm sure that they will gain the answers they need to either pass the exams, write an essay or even engage in dialogue or debates with others. All of which will certainly enrich their lives.
