I am an English native speaker and professional translator and linguist, working with German, Portuguese and French. I like to start from a grammar-focussed perspective, as I find that, while vocabulary is best strengthened through exposure, a solid foundation of grammatical understanding makes the difference between stumbling through a new language and conquering it.
I tend to begin my lessons with a pop quiz, to go over the material covered in the previous lesson and ensure the knowledge has been retained. I then like to take one gramamtical topic at a time and thoroughly explain the rules and reasoning that make it work. Once the knowledge has been adequately conveyed and the content discussed, we will then work through exercises together to practice applying the new aspects of grammar in context.
I also pride myself on being student-led in my approach, so, if you would prefer to take a different approach or something isn't working for you, I am always happy to adapt my lessons to your wants and needs.
I have a love of learning and enthuasism that many of my students find infectious so if you want to learn a lot in a warm and friendly environment, get in touch.
I primarily teach EFL/ESL, German, Portuguese and Beginners/Intermediate French, but am open to exploring other topics, particularly in relation to creative writing, as my work as a literary translator lends me a level of expertise in this area too. I always say, if you don't ask, you don't get, so make sure to ask me if you have an unusual request - I might just be able to make it happen for you!
