My lessons are often on the lines of Socratic Questioning, i.e. asking open questions and actively listening to the answers to identify knowledge gaps. I believe in asking, rather than telling, to draw out people's latent potential, as we often feel more connected to our own ideas than those of others! I often use video, articles, worksheets, reading passages and visual prompts etcetera to keep lessons lively and learner-centred. I have over 30 years experience of teaching English to native speakers and EFL/ESL and Business English , as well as GCSE, IGCSE and A level English Literature. I strongly believe in a warm and empathic approach to put students at their ease and create a "psychologically safe" learning space.
For those preparing for exams I use past papers and am familiar with the curricula of all UK Exam Boards as well as the IB.
