ESOL students are learning English for a variety of different reasons and I see no point in treating everyone the same. Some want to get certified, some learn because of necessity and other just want to learn English. My approach to all of them is different and I don't intend to follow the same pattern with every one of my students at all.
I love to research so if my students have a particular interest in any area, I like to adapt lessons around those subjects to keep it interesting and fresh. If you're a student that doesn't like that and would prefer structured lessons focusing on material then I have no problems doing that either.
