I am currently a high school English teacher, teaching both GCSE and KS3. I have experience with both one-to-one tutoring, as well as whole classroom teaching, which taught me how to create learning plans specifically for the individual needs of the pupil I am working with which focuses on the differentiation for individual needs of pupils.
As mentioned, my teaching style focuses on the individual and I think it is really important to sit down and pinpoint the areas of English where improvement is needed and then coming up with a learning action plan between myself and the pupil to help ensure not only that they have the knowledge needed to do well but the confidence also.
I have particular strengths in studying Shakespeare due to my undergrad degree and the opportunities it offered me to explore Shakespeare’s plays in depth and also in new ways that were different to my own high school experience such as RSC writing and drama workshops, which I feel will offer me new and creative ways to engage and teach students Shakespeare which I know can be a challenging aspect of English for many students.
My key focus for tutoring would be GCSE preparation, both Literature and Language.
