Hello, I am Kirstie the Psychology tutor. I finished my degree in Psychological and Behavioural Sciences (Years 1-2) and Natural Sciences: Psychology, Neuroscience and Behaviour (Year 3) at the University of Cambridge in 2021. I graduated with a First (74.75%) and the third-highest score of my cohort. As part of my course, I studied natural sciences, biological anthropology, neuroscience and 'psychological and behavioural sciences (PBS)' papers. I also achieved 82% in my research project exploring novel genetic models for studying OCD. I am really passionate about the science of the brain and behaviour and would love to use my enthusiasm and expertise to help others pursue further education in these subjects. I am a first generation student, so also have experience with accessing Oxbridge and university from an underrepresented socioeconomic background. Accordingly, I acted as Class Act Officer on my college student council (JCR) to support students from these backgrounds at Cambridge. I love teaching students, and am a particularly strong Psychology A Level tutor, a subject I myself achieved A* (84%) in at AQA A Level as a student (optional topics were schizophrenia, aggression and gender). I have been tutoring psychology for several years and taught it for secondary school exams, university admissions and degree support. For students struggling with the more mathematical and biological components of psychology courses, I can provide extensive teaching to help them to understand and perform in these areas more successfully. I am the Psychology and Neuroscience workshop tutor for the Oxford Scholastica Academy. Here, I have taught groups of students worldwide (including China, Brazil and Singapore) during an online ten-day programme covering approaches in psychology, neuroimaging, personality, attachment, intelligence, language, memory, research methods, mood and clinical disorders, and creativity. I also led them to conduct and deliver their own research project on a psychology topic of their choice. I have extensive experience with university, particularly Oxbridge, admissions; I have delivered Oxbridge interview training and college choice workshops for PBS and Natural Sciences admissions. I can also tutor students for personal statement, psychology admissions exams and university interviews. The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) programme is additionally something I am able to teach, and I achieved an A* for my own EPQ covering the aetiology of autism. If students would like help with how to study further or work in the field of Psychology, I can also include such advice in my sessions. I try to tailor my sessions as much as possible to students' future ambitions and interests to make my teaching engaging and useful. For example, I have tutored a medicine applicant in Psychology A Level, and was sure to draw parallels between the A Level specification and the medicine degree course. I am currently training to be an occupational therapist in a MSc course, and so can also discuss careers and postgraduate research with you. I really look forward to hopefully working with you soon to help you to achieve your full potential in Psychology!
