My sessions are highly personalised, tailored to the individual needs of each student. I aim to identify and discuss the students’ learning objectives early on and address these throughout our sessions. I draw on my strong background in the sciences - developed from the first three years of my medical degree, as well as my experience studying A-level sciences. My emphasis is on taking an active approach to learning, mirroring some of the methods I have utilised to both teach and learn at medical school.
Tutoring sessions will be comprised of a combination of structured and unstructured activities. We will begin in a structured manner- with an initial review of the student’s objectives and key content needed for the session. This will then usually be followed by a quiz to gauge understanding and guide the focus of the rest of the session. Following this will be more unstructured time for students to ask any questions, points of clarification and for us to then cover topics that require further consolidation. At the end of each session students will be given a short worksheet to complete before the next and will be based on the day’s content to facilitate retention of knowledge.
In order to help my students make the most of our sessions I also provide exclusive access to my own GCSE note bank- as a student who achieved grade 9’s in all subjects these notes have been a highly effective resource. Online access to the note bank is given after the student has had at least three tutoring sessions.
