I am currently working as an English Teacher at an International school in Doha, Qatar, looking for an
opportunity to join a creative school with a positive school community spirit.
With my latest role as an English Teacher, a prior role as an English Teacher in South Korea, position as an
iGCSE English Literature and Language tutor for French-native students and an ESL Intervention Lead in
Oman, I have experienced several different learning cultures and covered many curriculums; including
TOEFEL Junior and The British Curriculum at GCSE level.
With my current role as a Teacher, I have been able to apply pedagogical theories to support student
learning and metacognition. This is alongside my developed skill of crafting SOLs and sequence learning to
support student retention, ensuring that they are supported consistently throughout their learning
journey - skills I have acquired during my position as a trainee teacher last academic year.
During my time as an ESL lead at Ghars International School in the Sultanate of Oman, my role included:
Teaching English as a second language and providing support for students with English language
deficiency. I also had the responsibility to develop intervention strategies to help second language English
speakers and to also provide support to teachers with classroom assistance for second language English
speakers.
My experience within the education sector has introduced me to a different set of challenges, in terms of
communicating and developing material for students who have a low-level proficiency of English and
experience with a different learning experience to what I am familiar with. I have overcome these
challenges, by adapting my teaching style to my students and their interests, and needs, and also by
researching material that would inspire and assist them with their learning experience.
Alongside my professional development, I have worked with social-development projects and schools in
Kabale, Uganda with many teachers and project leads to develop educational and development
programmes for young people within the district. I have assisted in delivering English literacy workshops
with young people who have adopted English as a second language. I have further expanded these skills
with an education-sports based charity in London, UK as a project assistant. Again, I have worked
alongside education and project leads in developing programmes, skill workshops and project-based
learning activities with young people aged 13-15.
My experience has inspired me to adopt a teaching pedagogy that inspires students and promotes a
passion for the pursuit of knowledge. This is practised by my skill of deep questioning and subject
knowledge. I believe in inspiring students to learn about the world around them, gaining cultural capital
and understanding the world beyond the classroom is at the core of my teaching philosophy. I pride
myself in offering students the best of what I have learned throughout my travels and experiences and I
work my utmost best to share that with all my students.
