I have experience in teaching math and add-math to Malaysian students, preparing for their IGCSE (GCSE equivalent) examinations. I believe active learning is the way to permanently understand whatever subject we are trying to learn. I would start by evaluating my student's level of understanding according to the syllabus and discuss about specific needs of the student. Then create a plan, weekly goals to be achieved, according to my students' weaknesses and strengths. For math, it is quite simple. The most important thing is fundamentals of the GCSE syllabus. The math syllabus is made to challenge Year 11 students' understanding and capability to link all their prior knowledge together. With a strong foundation, the extended and complicated topics could be digested quite easily, simply by using logic.

I am currently doing engineering mathematics, and I have done both math and further math in my A-Levels before, so I am capable proofing the workings of the theorem and giving in-depth explanations to my students, which would aid in their understanding of math. Students dislike math, because they are not good at it, which is a result of the lack of understanding. I strive to build my students' knowledge from the ground up, no matter which grade they are in.

My classes were carried out 1 on 1, I try to be more 'chill' and casual with my student. I used to be a student and I know how it feels to have an uptight/ strict tutor that I was not comfortable and vulnerable enough to admit my weakness or seek further knowledge and ask questions. So I wish my students can treat me more like a mentor instead of another school teacher, as I am here to help them improve their overall understanding in the subject, so they can use the same learning method in their other GCSE subjects and future studies, to score and excel.
