In the first lesson I like to use a small test to see where your strengths and weaknesses are so I can see what gaps are needed to be filled. I will then focus over following lessons on breaking down those weaker topics into more manageable and bite sized sections to make it easier to understand and progress through.
I will send over the material before a lesson and will also share my screen with any of my own methods to help the student see what I am doing in real time.
I like to use analogies and word play to make maths click a bit more in the mind of younger students.
I believe building a strong foundation in maths Ks1 and Ks2 can really help in secondary school and I intend to help all of my students reach their highest potential in that regard.
I also believe in strong communication with parents about how their child is progressing within the subject after each lesson.
I will periodically do small tests to check if their knowledge has improved in a certain subject.
I am incredibly patient and willing to spend as much time as is needed on a given subject.
I have gained experience through helping my peers in GCSE maths to achieve higher grades and fill gaps in subjects that they may have previously struggled with.
I feel I will be able to confidently teach the SATS maths curriculum and I will strive to do so effectively in a way best suited for each individual.
