Firstly we will establish the areas and subjects of highest required improvement, then discover where the blocks may be that is preventing the student from understanding. Once we either understand or begin the teaching I will begin to reframe the topic in a new way that they are able to visualise through sayings and phrases, by assigning a visual element to a topic or personality of some kind, I have found students to be more receptive and able to recall information much easier.
The stages of a problem will be lay out and each step will be understood, if a fundamental of the question or process is missing then a detour to fully understand that required topic. I will walk through a question with the individual then allowing them to solve it again on their own. If they complete the question a variant of the question will be given to see understanding. If the student is still struggling then a new approach will be taken, paying attention to the areas of improvement, however if the student understands the topic, a more difficult variant will be given to solve.
Every time we come to a new session I will prep a question from the previous topic with some questions revolving around the topic to see the students understanding and to keep the topic fresh in their mind. I am also willing to create homework tasks involving questions from previous tutoring lessons and a review will be made every week for understanding.
