An example of our first lesson

1. Breaking the ice - it is important for me to build a relationship with my students, as I want them to feel comfortable with any questions / queries they would like answering. The first plan of action would be to take some time getting to know one another. We would discuss your interests, your hobbies and also the worries you are facing with education at the moment. This would also include understanding how you learn, whether that be through listening/reading or active learning.

2. Schedule creation - This part of the lesson would include writing up a schedule that works best for you. I won’t ask for 10 pieces of homework to be completed within a week, as this is unrealistic. Unrealistic goals can be very overwhelming and too much work can result in you not wanting to complete any at all. This is likely to be at the end of our lesson.

3. Solution centre - After pinpointing your worries, I would like to dig deeper. Why are you worried about this particular part of the subject and what can we do to help this. We would attempt to create solutions for your problems and reflect on them in the following lesson. If that solution isn’t working for you, we would experiment with something else.

4. Questions - At the end of the lesson, it is your chance to ask any questions you feel we haven’t discussed. No question is silly so don’t be afraid to speak your mind.
