In 2016, I worked in a summer camp in Tarragona, Spain, teaching English to Spanish teenagers. I did it the following year in Priego de Cordoba, Spain. It taught me that we as humans, can connect in so many more ways than just language, but highlighted how powerful language is. It also taught me patience and a deeper appreciation for conversation with others.
As a native English speaker, I want to help you to gain confidence in yourself and to feel enthusiastic and inspired whilst learning the language with me. I find the best way to learn a language is conversation. Asking questions, sounding words out, music. I don't like heavy amounts of grammar, as that comes with time, but the main focus in my lessons would be conversing about the everyday and expanding vocabulary.
I will have a lesson plan template that would change day to day. For example, a lesson could look like this:
Topic of the lesson, example: Food I like.
Goals: 1. Student will be able to talk about food by the end of the lesson.
We will discuss verbs such as "eat", "like/dislike", "drink".
We will discuss nouns such as "apple", "table", "dinner".
The lesson would involve fun activities and conversation. I would also include imagery.
I am more than happy to adjust lesson plans to a students capabilities and comfortability because I understand learning a new language is daunting. I am patient, caring and willing to help in any way that I can.
