I recently graduated from a Masters programme with Distinction, and have been tutoring in English, French, and Music for two years now. I am a professional musician, and have worked in both French and English before. Having previously worked in secondary education, I'm very familiar with current exam specs and will be able to help prepare pupils for exams up to A-level.
I tailor every lesson to each specific student's needs, focusing on their weaker areas while uplifting their strengths. Content will be based on classwork or exam coursework, with some wider work designed to help the student become more comfortable working and studying independently.
In music sessions we will spend some time covering music theory, and then either composition technique or set work study.
In French language sessions we will spend some time on a grammar exercise, before moving onto some vocabulary and translation work, and finishing with some speaking or listening.
In English sessions we will spend time with a piece of text and develop our comprehension and analytical skills, for example identifying techniques and themes. From there we will either look at some grammar technique related to the text, for example contractions, homonyms, or focus on written expression like creative or persuasive writing. If a student is in exam years, then we will look at some literature similar to set works that will help the student become more familiar and comfortable with that area of literature, and will help them learn how to study their classwork independently.
