Katherine Paulette Sibug

For the last eighteen years, I worked as a full-time educator at the elementary level and in college, both in the public local schools in the Philippines, together with my seven years of significant teaching experience in Texas and South Carolina, USA. My years in the teaching field strengthened my ability in coaching which increased students’ tolerance of frustration when they become overwhelmed and feel incapable of succeeding. It helped me tap the undiscovered potentials of my students by focusing on their accomplishments and reflecting on past successes that served as a ground for promoting positive self-concept. My understanding of cultural diversity earned from my travel built valuable relationships with diverse students and co-workers. For me, teaching is a noble profession that must be handled meticulously. I view each of my students as God’s beautiful creation with unique abilities, hence; each of them must be treated fairly and must receive the appropriate accommodation based on their needs and interests. Moreover, I believe that teaching is not only about coaching my students in becoming academically equipped, but also I am accountable for preparing them to become well-adjusted lifelong learners, a person of self-understanding, and individuals of initiative with a sense of accountability.
