I tailor the method to the goal of the student. If the student wishes to learn English because they are moving to an English speaking country then we focus on how to perform the basic everyday tasks by starting with the basic words and phrases the student will need. Also addressed is the social aspect of speaking English to communicate with people they will come in contact with. If the focus is English for travelers then we first learn the basics of words needed to make reservations, change plans, read a travel book, etc. For the professional student it is critical to explore and learn the language of the subject they are interested in. There are many methods of teaching and many methods of learning. One size does not fit all. Each student will have to be open to various activities available to him or her in order to determine whether they learn better by interacting, or listening, or practicing by repeating, watching movies, acting out a plot, playing a word search game, rote memorization or one of the other myriad of choices available. Almost always it is a combination of activities and courses of study that allow the student to make steady progress in gaining proficiency in English. 'Each student is important to me and working with them to find their way of learning is a promise I make to them. We will work together until you have met your goal.
