As I have been teaching for over 17 years, I have a bank of resources and ideas which I use in my lessons.
I love breaking down the structures so you can see and understand how they work and how they're different to English. I also love using gap fill, dictation, speaking practice, games and songs to support you in remembering new language. I spend time revising language on a regular basis and using the same words in different contexts so you can build your confidence in the language.
I use a mixture of listening, reading, writing and speaking in lessons to ensure that you feel capable in all 4 skills; this may be through a listening extract, a conversation, a presentation or reading an article. In terms of writing, I believe in building structures so we spend time on translation and how to form tenses so that you can build sentences that are going to convey the desired meaning. In terms of grammar, I believe in a flexible approach; sometimes this is through the content as a set structure and, other times, it's an explicit lesson to teach you how the tense / structure is formed so you can apply it to new learning in the future.
Finally, I have a number or French and Spanish reading books which I love to introduce. I think it's so important to use real, authentic materials in our lessons together so you can have a deeper understanding of the culture as well as the language.
