Before I began as a teacher of Drama and English in a secondary school in West Yorkshire, I did some work experience at a private school, where I was able to work with students who were aspiring to apply to the top UK universities. In my first teaching role I taught KS3, GCSE and A’Level students, and I went on school trips, took students to theatre performances, and choreographed dances in school productions. In my second teaching position in a school in North Yorkshire, I also set up and led new BTEC Performing Arts courses, and I also became Head of Drama. When I taught English in schools, I taught both English Language and Literature. The skills which I delivered were reading comprehension, writing skills, persuasive language, and English speaking skills. These are skills which I am still teaching online today. I have students who have English as their second language and they are doing their final exams, before they go to university. I am currently preparing them in all aspects of their English language, so they can get get the best grades possible, and I am pushing all of them to their next ESOL levels. In my creative writing lessons, I teach native English speakers, but mainly students as English as their second language. I choose a different book each week, and ask each student to read a section, then I set a written task, which focuses on a different technique each lesson, and then each student reads their work out at the end to everyone else. I also teach UK students in KS2, KS3 and GCSE stages, so that they are at the correct levels which they should be. I have built up a fantastic rapport with all of my students, and I care deeply about their progression.
