I`m Kat and I am a very experienced educator specialising in the humanities, history and exam and admissions preparation. With 17 years of working as a university lecturer, schoolteacher, and tutor, I bring a wealth of experience to whatever you want to learn and achieve. I believe in inspiring students with a love of learning in the humanities, history in particular, and in encouraging them to achieve their best in whatever form that looks like. The pandemic has been tough on students at all levels, there’s been lots of lost learning, and I really want to use my expertise to make a difference

I am enthusiastic and passionate about learning and education, and I strive to share that with my students while helping them achieve their goals. I believe that students achieve their best when lessons are engaging and entertaining, but also tailored to their particular learning style. My lessons are structured but with flexibility and a range of tasks, such as reading, analysis of sources, media, and discussion, as well as exam preparation if that’s important to your learning. I will suggest materials, exercises and tasks for students to work on outside sessions, though this will always be tailored to the student`s needs. I am always happy to work out a personalised learning and development plan, and to discuss suitable rates.

I am currently employed as a lecturer and I have taught history to students at all levels from BA to PhD supervision at several universities, examined university degrees, and run admissions at the University of Oxford. I have also worked in a top private school in London, and I have extensive experience helping students prepare for 11+, school admissions and university admissions. I also have a particular specialism in adult learning, having worked at Birkbeck College for years, so if you are getting back into studies after a break or just looking to learn about the world, I can help. As a professional and published writer, I am an expert in working with students to improve their writing and communication skills.

I have extensive experience in designing and running online learning and teaching, having coordinated this for my university during the Covid-19 pandemic for two years and training in online pedagogy.

I have many interests beyond my work too - I am a walker and hiker, a regular theatre-goer (plays and dance), a keen piano player and attend many concerts, and also a dedicated martial artist with world medals in the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
