I like to find out the student's experience of education and any previous barriers to learning. I also like to find out some personal interests, hobbies, or aspirations, in order to link learning to the life experience of the person learning. Depending on the level being studied, we will choose a module that presents challenges and explore those challenges and potential solutions together. We will then plan steps towards better understanding and enthusiasm about the topic.
I will start the lesson with an easy attainable question and answer, and move on to unpick and explore previous knowledge and interests before setting goals for the end of each lesson together. Learning will always be a dialogue and feedback on progress encouraged. I will also leave time to review and reflect on progress made and next steps.
