Having studied CELTA has boosted my skills and knowledge on how to teach ESOL students. I had the opportunity to not only learn skills but also teach volunteer students in both pre-intermediate and upper-intermediate level with a total teaching hours of 6. I taught grammar, reading, vocabulary and pronunciation to the students which I had to prepare beforehand, doing regular lesson planning and preparing materials according to students' level. All my lessons were taught using PowerPoint, which I am very familiar with. I have presented a well-structured lesson and managed the lessons smoothly. This has shown to be successful as my lessons have gone according to plan. Overall, CELTA has been the most rewarding course I have studied, which made me much aware of the linguistics of ESOL and techniques of teaching ESOL students’. I have also supported pre-entry level ESOL students aged 16-18, by assisting the teacher in explaining the materials to the students, making sure they are supported on an individual basis and supporting them through their emotional needs. I also had the opportunity to teach ESOL mature students outside of class, providing them support in work they are unsure about, giving extra materials and homework to boost their knowledge in English language. All learners that I have taught passed their exam and are onto the next level of the course.
