My experience is more personal than professional. I have helped my coursemates, friends and family with their educational needs
Generally what I like to do is gain an understanding of what the tutee already possesses and go from there. This can include, answering exam-style questions, writing down all the information about the topic or having a general discussion about key information from the desired topic. I will then construct a lesson based on this and go through the basics, making sure there is a strong understanding before going on to the more advanced topics. I will also help the tutee with exam-style questions and answer any questions they may have. I also like to help make flashcards and use active recall throughout the lesson to maximise effectiveness.
In a group setting the structure would not change much however I would have students working with each other and helping each other out, and if there is an issue only I am able to resolve I would step in.
I like to gain an understanding of how the tutee learns before anything else e.g visual learning, audio etc, which will make the lesson as efficient as possible. In a group setting, I will use all of these learning techniques so that no one is left out and the lesson will be able to be understood by everyone
