As your personal tutor, I will engage with my group (or individual) to see where they live and what interests them so that we can choose appropriate subject matter for the classes.
I will start each class with a bit of art history and examine the work if an artist before we start painting.
We will explore colour and colour theory, applying this to a painting exercise.
We will undertake drawing exercises and understand how import it is to examine and record visual information.
We will look at the work of e.g. Bonnard and his still life paintings. We will examine the composition of certain works and assess the significance of composition and what makes a good piece of art.
We will look at the mental health benefits of making art and understand elements of art therapy.
We will explore different art mediums and techniques as we progress, working on paper, different surfaces and experimenting as we go.
We will look at some of my own work and examine why certain works are more successful than others.
We can look at how to use a sketchbook and develop an artistic discipline.
We can explore the pros and cons of having an art studio and gallery representation vs self representation.
We can look at the art market and how to become a successful artist.
I will be guided by the class members as I get to know you. You will be invited to bring work to class to discuss and evaluate.
