I have a Neuroscience BSc at the University of Bristol and am currently doing a Clinical Neuropsychiatry MSc at King's College London.
I structure my teaching in this way:
1. Discussion with student: what they struggle with and want to achieve, their learning styles, career plans if they have any, etc.
2. Familiarise myself with their exam specification and school work
3. Make a teaching plan with the student, which may include:
- memory techniques
- developing study skills
- going over what they learn in class
- answering any questions and explaining anything they don't understand
- practice questions: consolidate learning by applying knowledge in answering past paper questions for homework, then go over the questions
with me studying the mark scheme to also learn HOW to answer questions and what the examiners are looking for
I aim to create a relaxed, engaging and motivating study space - as a student I understand exam stress and having had years to learn how to manage and thrive in this environment I want to help others achieve the same thing. I focus on the individual student's abilities, needs and strengths to push them to do the best that they can.
