I am a grade 8 standard pianist, and specialise in composition and improvisation. I allow the student to explain what kind of sound they want to achieve and will walk them through step by step until we achieve a similar sound. I will also teach them the theory side of composition so they can eventually learn how to create pieces of their own to a high level of skill, and can explain any kind of theory in a simplified manner so as not to sway them from loving the music itself. I can also go in depth for more advanced students and, although only 16, I believe I have a strong grasp of even the most complicated schoenbergian compositional skills, such as polytonality and modality. I will connect with the student to make the lessons as easy as possible for them. I approach all my lessons in a mature fashion, and have taught many people how to compose pieces. I’m currently in my first year of college, however when I was in year 11 I would assist the music teachers in my school in composition. I got a perfect score on the compositional aspect of my gcse, and if asked I can send many examples of my own compositions for solo piano to the student or the students parents to put them at ease if questioning my level of skill due to age. The only part of music I am not familiar with is sight reading, however due to my speciality in composition and improvisation this will not be an issue in the lesson as I will be teaching the student how to create not how to recite.
