I aim to make my lessons as engaging and interactive as possible. I believe in different learning methods and wish to tailor my lessons to the individual in order to cater to how they learn, allowing them to benefit more from each session. This may be by working through examples with them or by showing them how to solve problems so that they can try themselves. I have keen interest in sports and films and will look to work these passions into my lessons where possible in order to engage with the students in another dimension.
As you can tell, my lesson format will be designed to work with the student, forming more of a conversation between the two of us instead of the usual question, answer and instruction traditional teaching uses.
As I have shared some of my interests, I would also like to learn the extra-curricular interests of my students such that I can incorporate those into my problem examples as well, with the intention of providing another avenue of engagement. This is one of the major benefits I think to one on one sessions as I think it allows the teacher to contextualise their lessons and learnings to the individual themselves, which should enable the student to garner greater understanding of some of the concepts.
The main of my lessons is of course to benefit the student, so I will always ask about there understanding and if my methods are working for them as well, it is important to me to receive their feedback as well so I can continue to improve my teachings rather than just assume I am doing a good enough job!
