Josh Armitage

I am a practicing artist with a studio in South London and my paintings are represented in prestigious art collections internationally. I also have extensive experience as a teacher and in the last ten years have taught thousands of students in top UK art schools including UAL Camberwell, Kingston School of Art and Goldsmiths University of London among others. I have taught drawing, painting, art history, illustration and animation as well as creative thinking and design. My primary aim with teaching is to boost student’s confidence in their own abilities to help them flourish as creatives.

Teaching is an integral part of my practice and has evolved from working in institutions to the public realm, notably in my series of classes; Secrets of Seeing with the London Drawing Group which reaches an audience of thousands internationally. I am currently associate lecturer in illustration in the Department of Media, Communications and Cultural Studies at Goldsmiths University of London. I use a flexible approach, tailored to each individual student’s interests, guiding them in enhancing their own unique abilities. I have equal amounts of experience, teaching students with analogue media as I do teaching students, digital resources like Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design and various video and animation editing software like Premiere and After Effects. I believe teaching students holistic skills that help them to see how ideas and methods link together is key to helping them work as flexible, confidant and independent creatives.
