My strategy is generally to get students to understand the subject and be able to demonstrate that understanding by successfully answering exam questions. This initially means explaining to the student what an examiner would be expecting to see from an answer, but also focusing on the subjects the student finds most challenging. It also entails, ensuring the student understands what won't score marks.
Mastering Exam technique includes helping students answer questions using bullet points, to highlight only the important points, and not necessarily everything they know about a certain topic.
Thus, in summary the training for exam technique means teaching efficiency and effectiveness, and plugging knowledge gaps, and ensuring students can explain a concept or idea clearly andbin simple terms.
