Joseph Graydon

As a tutor, I provide student-centered composition and music theory support from beginners to advanced levels. My primary role is to coach and facilitate student learning, and to offer a broad base of materials and knowledge to help the student progress both technically and creatively. I offer tuition targeting both GCSE and A Level composition and analysis requirements, as well as free composition for those aiming to explore composition from a more creative angle.

I believe that composition and music theory more broadly is best explored with a hands-on, practical approach in which the students' explorations are discussed in our session and further built upon, alongside constructively highlighting practical issues and technical tweaks. Following our sessions I will provide resources to support the students' learning in topics discussed in our session.

As a recent graduate of two conservetoire composition departments, i have personal experience of submitting composition portfolios in Higher Education, and can guide students through the process of building a body of work to submit as part of their application to universities and music colleges.

Aside from as an educator, I work as a freelance composer and my work has been played by EXAUDI Vocal Ensemble, Plus-Minus Ensemble, The Royal Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra, musical settings for contemporary dance alongside soloists of my own generation. I've studied at the Royal Academy of Music and Guildhall School of Music and Drama for undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in musical composition, achieving a first class degree with honors from both institutions.
