Having tutored so many different students I understand that everyone learns in their own way, which is why I am so flexible with my approach to teaching from student to student and sometimes, session to session.
My lessons take place on an interactive whiteboard where both the student and myself can draw and annotate in real-time. The content of each lesson is discussed beforehand with the student, following this discussion I will create a lesson plan which is to act as a guide rather than a rigid structure.
For those that would benefit the approach I favour employing an Oxbridge Tutorial style session, where the lesson is led by the open discussion of problems, which helps build confidence, intuition and a deeper understanding of the theory involved, rather than solely relying on memorisation.
In addition to classic tuition, I also offer assistance with University admissions. In particular, I offer personal statement proofreading and personalised feedback in the form of annotations and a 1-1 follow-up session.
For students interested in applying to Oxbridge (or Russell Group Universities that hold interviews, such as Imperial), I offer Mock Chemistry interviews. These are held in exactly the same fashion as Oxbridge interviews, with no guidance provided to students beforehand in an attempt to simulate authenticity. After the interview, I hold a 1-1 with students to provide feedback on their performance and make further suggestions. In the 1-1 session I welcome any questions that students may have about the interview process and try to dispel any myths!
