John in a nutshell
Looking for lessons, look no further :)

My lessons are remote based on Zoom, low or zero lag, with multi camera views, (wired internet is best for the best experience, Wi-Fi is okay but you need high speed) I also do home visits only, but local only, so within 10 miles of Halifax, UK.

My lessons are remote based on Zoom, low or zero lag, with multi camera views, (wired internet is best for the best experience, Wi-Fi is okay but you need high speed) I also do home visits only, but local only, so within 10 miles of Halifax, UK.

Every music lesson is bespoke to the students, which means your musical and instrument needs are what you want to learn and what you need for your development as a musician. I’m happy to do any genre, style of playing, sight reading, technique, etc.

I’m happy to do any exam preparation, RSL, Trinity, Rock School, ABRSM. Etc. Been a professional live musician for over 25 years and highly experienced and high level musician (still playing live) I’m very easy going and patient.

Personally, as a guitarist Eddie Van Halen is my most influence, so tapping and that classic rock style is no problem. I'm able to do styles of Nuno, Vai, Satriani,, but also I'm happy to do Rock, Pop and current artists. I can teach all the techniques; tapping, legato, picking, alternate picking, sweep picking. also happy to work on reading and improvisational skills.

For bass, Mark King and Sting where my main influences at the start. So no problem teaching slap, tapping, chords, legato, reading etc

Drumming I’ve done since I was 11, influenced by Steward Copeland, Dave Weckl, Mike Portnoy, and Ian Paice. Any genre, including double pedal, reading, stick control and all styles and genres.

As a tutor I will push the student, but, also work at each students pace. I’ve had a lot of successful students, who have gone on to become successful in their instrument. Happy to play any style or genre of music and because Ive got multi camera views, you can easily see things online.

I'm a multi instrumentalist, and I'm highly proficient at bass, drums and guitar, so I can play in every position in a band (unfortunately not at the same time (hah, hah)

I'm very patient, (I've been told) and as a student can have serious or for fun lessons, do it at your pace, please contact for more information.

I'm strict on the stuff that matters, but don't let that put you off, all my students have said my focus on technique and musicality helped them be better players.

First lesson is free for online lessons, so try it out and see what you think. I've taught a lot of generations of musicians, as being teaching pretty much full-time for 20 years, but still play play live every weekend with my band All Of The Above, and help occasionally on bass with Not Guilty. I was full-time pro musician live for 7 years, before teaching came more stable.

I highly recommend John as a guitar teacher, having had remote lessons with him I find the lessons really convenient to arrange and have learnt a lot over the last few years I’ve been having lessons with John. During the lessons I’ve been given tips on proper technique which I feel has drastically improved my playing and he gives music to practice that you listen to and want to play which I find keeps me motivated. He also sets out stuff to work on for next lesson which I really find keeps me focused and practicing outside of lessons also. Again I cannot recommend John enough!

John is an enthusiastic and very patient teacher. He teaches both myself and my daughter and tailors the lessons to our individual needs. He is always happy to explain the theory of what you’re playing and will spend the time helping you get the correct sound to match the piece your playing.
