We’ll start with some easy tests to find your current level of English, and then we’ll discuss what you need to achieve from your lessons: whether you want to focus on written or spoken English (or both); whether you need to work on technical English for your job, or perhaps want to improve your vernacular English.
Each lesson will typically have a more formal element, where we might work on a particular part of grammar/specific tenses, or perhaps working on elements of pronunciation. Each will also have a more conversational element, where I will set a topic in advance (maybe an item from the week’s news, a hobby of yours, the food in your home country etc) and we will discuss, with me asking you questions, and you asking me questions. My aim is to improve your confidence and fluency first, and then to nail down grammatical points.
Every lesson will be different of course, but each will have an introduction, where we chat for a few minutes. Then we’ll get into the more formal didactic part of the session, which will be based around exercises, and finally we’ll recap and clear up anything you didn’t understand.
I will set you homework each work, to help you work on weaker areas I’ve identified and to speed your progress. You’ll get far more out of your lessons this way. But although we’ll both work hard, I always aim to make lessons interesting and fun… it’s the best way to learn!
