What methods do I use to teach?
- Engage them in dialogue and debate about sociological topics, as developing your own reasoned view matters.
- Provide mental scaffolding to support learners in their writing technique and structuring.
- Working through past-paper questions and model answers.
- Marking student answers and providing detailed and consistent feedback.
- Use worksheets to support students in critically engaging with content.
- Mind-mapping in order to support students in developing synoptic links between topics.
- Providing texts and videos for students to engage with to give them a broader and up-to-date understanding of current sociological issues.
- The use of PowerPoint to teach or re-teach key content.
What are my qualities as a teacher?
- I am non-judgemental, nobody will ever be made to feel inadequate or “stupid” in my classroom or tutoring sessions.
- I am caring, I understand the pressure that students feels and take this into account when planning and delivering sessions.
- I am passionate. I teach sociology because I love it. I studied it at the University of Bath and continue to engage with sociological issues in my free time.
- I am knowledgeable! I stay up-to-date with all exam guidance, content and current affairs.
