About me

I teach all my lessons online using zoom.
Due to university I prefer to teach later in the afternoon but I can squeeze the odd student in earlier.
I'm flexible with time so if you need to reschedule last minute or book an extra couple sessions before a test that's fine.
I'm flexible with format too so if you want to change the structure or methods of the lessons in any way, I'm completely onboard...

I went to school in Scotland so I'm most familiar with the SQA (Scottish exam board) however I'm also capable of teaching any A-level content or equivalent.
I prefer to take students studying from N5/GCSE up to Advanced Higher/A-level

My lessons are roughly comprised of two stages: figuring out what you need to learn and teaching you.

Figuring out what you need to learn:
This can be as straight forward as you telling me a particular topic that you need taught.
Or it could be you giving me an area you're struggling with and me drawing up a couple sample questions to find what needs improving.
Often times, especially when exams are near, I like to go through past papers and find questions you can't do.
It's always crucial to get to the route of the error, I've had students where the trouble they were having stemmed from something quite basic that they just weren't taught in early secondary or even primary school.

Teaching you:
When teaching I always make sure students understand the solution to a problem before we begin practicing it. Though sometimes if a concept just isn't clicking we can find methods for memorising the solution but I tend to look at this as more of a last resort.
Zoom has a whiteboard and I have an electronic drawing board so I'll often illustrate what I'm explaining as I talk, this also allows the student to draw on the white board and point out things in the diagram that don't make sense.
I also like to make sure students feel free to interrupt me. The sooner you voice what's confusing you or ask me to do something differently the better.
