I am incredibly keen to share my enthusiasm for history through tutoring and believe a dynamic approach is necessary for discovering each learner's strengths. By cultivating a comfortable and positive relationship with my tutee, I will aim to nurture confidence in the subject through simple explanations and thought-provoking discussions.
I’ve had the opportunity to teach about the development of English society before and after the Norman Conquest through to the Middle Ages, the changing power dynamic between Church and State through the Tudor and Stuart dynasties, the English Civil War with local links, the French Revolution, and the causes of World War 1 in KS3. Towards KS4, I taught Tudor England with a specific focus on Elizabethan England, the rise of Nazism and Interwar Germany, and Crime and Punishment through time. My strengths in social and local history inform my practice, which I equip to kindle interest in the subject by demonstrating how remnants of the past exist tangibly in the present, and how learning about the past can inform our future. I believe this supports the world-building element of History that is essential to cultivating curiosity in the subject.
Lessons will start with a short retrieval practice to see what you know and how we can develop that. The main element of the lesson will aim to teach you something new and build on your knowledge or make the necessary links to help you fully understand the topic. Finally, we will summarise and consolidate the information covered during the session.
