I currently teach drums at my local music school Darwen School of Music, I've been teaching there for nearly 2 years and I've taught students from ages 7-60! In my lessons I teach a variety of improvisation, sight reading and drum techniques. I currently use the Trinity grades for the majority of my lessons - I teach all the grades (1-8) which allows students to develop and widen their overall rhythmic awareness and general drum skills.
I also offer a variety of other resources for helping students to develop stick control, hand and feet co-ordination and being able to build on their timing. Although these resources are focused towards reading drum sheet music, I always make sure my students are comfortable with developing their sight reading ability by starting off with simple exercises before advancing to more complex groove building.
I always try and make my lessons fun and engaging for my students, and even for beginners I like to get them playing along to music at an early stage once we've got a basic groove down! Playing to backing tracks is definitely encouraged with improvisation, which can also help with working towards preparing for the music school's yearly student showcases. These showcases involve students forming bands with other students from the music school and practicing songs from a set list that can involve various styles of music for students to learn.
So whether you're a beginner drummer or have some drumming experience, feel free to get in touch if you'd like to book for lessons!
