Hi guys! My lessons consist of a strong focus on structure and essay writing support. As a student myself, I found that nailing structure was essential in allowing myself to reach the top grades and I realised that not many of my peers had nailed a similar structure that encompasses a thorough clincher statement, analysis, evaluation, evidence and an interim judgement. The first couple of sessions aim to introduce/expand knowledge of the specific topics the student is working on. My specialities involve modern-history in all corners of the word, stretching from the civil rights movement, to the Cold War, to Nazi Germany and the Holocaust. After nailing down the key themes and information of the periods, we begin by running through mock papers and how to structure each part of the introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion. Different lessons will focus on different areas of an essay: i.e., one session may be on perfecting an introduction and another session would focus on perfecting a body paragraph and how to use evidence effectively, for example. Brief videos will be used to keep the session interactive, as well as quizzes to add fun dynamics into the sessions and ensure the student is stimulated/engrossed throughout the session. My approach as a tutor is that constructive analysis/criticism is essential while staying patient and building progress slowly. I have tutored students who are on As and students who are on Cs and the approach is adapted to the specific student, what they seem to be struggling with, and wider issues that may not just be impacting history - such as, how to write an essay in general! I plan lessons in advance and have optional homework to give to students. Ultimately, I love to teach and help others advance their academic potential!
