In our first lesson i would start by going through with the student a topic list from which they would then mark red, yellow and green in terms of how good they are at the topic. then i go through all of the topics starting with the hardest ones (marked red) and work our way up towards the ones marked yellow and then finallly onto the topics marked green to consolidate knowledge. How i would go about each topic is that I start by explaining the topic at hand, by showing the methods and then i would use the i do, we do, you do method. i would start by showcasing how i would go about answering the question, then i would go over a few more questions with the student, and then leave them to do some questions on their own, where i would be able to help if they got stuck. i would also be able to go through some homework questions or past paper questions that they may have. I can assign homework, however this would be down to the parents choice as the child may already have a large workload from school or another tutor.
