I have rarely taught 2 of my students the same as people learn very differently and I make sure to identify how each individual learns best and work with them in that way, finding what combination of visual, auditory, reading/writing and Kinesthetic learners the student is.
The initial session will be to identify 4 things; a students strengths in the subject, where they are less comfortable, how they learn best, what their interests are and how they align with the subject.
From this we build a lesson plan together, taking into accound the school curriculum and time scale, setting 2 different targets; the first being the target that we must achieve for exams/tests and the second being our private goal. These have been very similar before but have also been completing the curriculum after 5 months of the available 10 months and switching to exam prep and specific topic revision from then on.
